On arrival At Nyingchi Airport, a local guide will be on hand to lead you to Nyingchi City. Enroute, enjoy the spectacular landscapes surrounding Nyingchi. Visit the Benri Mountains Scenic Area, a sacred site associated with Tibet’s indigenous Bon tradition, where the imposing Benri Mountain rises above the lush Niyang River valley. Continue on to the remarkable Buddha’s Palm Sand Dunes, where golden dunes meet the turquoise waters of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, creating a surreal contrast of desert, river, forests and distant snow-capped mountains. Stop at the Niyang River Confluence, where the Niyang River meets the mighty Yarlung Tsangpo River, offering beautiful panoramic views of the rivers, wetlands and surrounding mountains.
Begin the day at Sejila Mountain (~4,728m), a spectacular high altitude pass offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks and, weather permitting, the majestic Mount Namjagbarwa, one of Tibet’s most iconic snow peaks. Continue on to the Lulang Forest Viewing Platform for a sweeping panorama of dense primeval forest, alpine meadows, distant mountains and the Lulang Alpine Pasture (Dragon King Valley). The Lulang Alpine Pasture is a beautiful highland meadow surrounded by forests and snow-capped mountains, where yaks and horses are often seen grazing. Thereafter, visit Zhaxigang Village, a picturesque classic Tibetan settlement with traditional houses, wooden fences surrounded by pastures and mountain scenery. Start the day with a visit to Kading Valley Scenic Area, a beautiful mountain valley renowned for its dramatic cliffs, cascading waterfalls and beautiful alpine scenery. Explore the valley before continuing to the spectacular Basomtso Scenic Area, one of Nyingchi’s most celebrated natural attractions. Set around the turquoise waters of Basomtso Lake and surrounded by snow-capped mountains and rolling alpine landscapes, the area offers magnificent views and excellent opportunities for photography. Its White and Red Palaces rise dramatically above the city and overlooks its entire valley. Continue to the sacred Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Lhasa, where Tibetan pilgrims gather and the richly decorated interiors reflect centuries of Buddhist devotion. Embark on a spectacular journey from Lhasa to Shigatse, travelling through some of Tibet’s most dramatic high altitude landscapes. Begin with a scenic drive to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s sacred turquoise lakes, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and sweeping valleys. Continue on to the Karola Glacier viewpoint, where the impressive glacier descends close to the roadside beneath the towering Himalayan landscape. Thereafter, proceed to Gyantse, a historic Tibetan town known for its traditional character and important cultural heritage, before continuing through the vast Tibetan plateau to Shigatse, Tibet’s 2nd largest city.
Depart Shigatse and embark on an exhilarating journey across the high altitude landscapes of the Tibetan Plateau towards Everest Town. Travel through Gyatsola Pass (5,280m), one of the highest points along the route, where the vast Tibetan plateau unfolds beneath dramatic mountain peaks. On clear days, this is often the first place where you can catch a glimpse of Mount Everest.
Explore the awe-inspiring Everest region, travelling to Everest Base Camp for stunning views of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Visit the Rongbuk Monastery, often described as the highest monastery in the world. Built directly facing Mount Everest, it commands sweeping views of the world’s highest peak and the surrounding Himalayas.
Take a leisurely road trip to Shigatse. At Shigatse, visit Tashilunpo Monastery, one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Tibet and renowned for its impressive architecture, sacred chapels, murals, stupas, and the magnificent 26m tall Maitreya (Future Buddha) statue, one of the largest gilded statues in the world. Board a train from Shigatse to Lhasa. Enjoy Lhasa at your own leisure. Stroll through the old quarters and see traditional Tibetan architecture, prayer wheels and incense-filled temples or browse local market stalls selling dried foods, spices, traditional clothing and handicrafts.
