11D10N China – Enshi Wonderland, 3 Gorges, Wulong, Wuhan & Chongqing Private Tour
Upon arrival at the Wuhan airport, transfer to a hotel in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province. Enjoy the rest of the day at own leisure.
Enjoy a city tour of Wuhan with attractions that include the Yellow Crane Tower, probably the most famous landmark in Wuhan that was built during the 3-Kingdoms era as a military watch tower and made famous by legends and poets. After the tour, travel on a high-speed train to Yichang, the 2nd largest city in Hubei built on the banks of the Yangtze River and the site of the Three Gorges Dam, the biggest dam and also the largest electric power station in the world.
Today, enjoy (1) a scenic cruise along the Yangtze River, passing the Gezhouba Dam ship lock (facility for ships to adjust to different water levels) and the Xiling Gorge, the longest section of the 3 gorges (of the “Three Gorges Dam”) stretching from Baidi City in Chongqing eastwards to Yichang, and, (2) a tour of the Three Gorges Dam.
Depart Yichang and head to Enshi whose stunning landscapes have earned it the reputation of being “China’s Most Beautiful Wonderland”. Not widely known to foreign visitors – yet – it is a hidden gem of the highest order that beckons! We will start our exploration of Enshi with a visit to the stunning Suobuya Stone Forest and enjoy the views of its beautiful and unique ancient karst formations from different spots.
Today, we will visit the stunning Enshi Grand Canyon, a geological wonder with cliffs stretching out as far as the eye can see, spectacular karst pinnacles (like the ones in Zhangjiajie), thunderous waterfalls and lush flora counting among its numerous natural wonders and features. To appreciate the beauty of the canyon up close, visitors can descend onto the canyon floor or walk on the 500m long suspended walkway along the walls of the cliffs.
Today, we will visit yet another canyon of comparable beauty – the Pingshan Grand Canyon, renowned for its beautiful and stunning natural scenery. Surrounded by mountain peaks and cliffs on both sides and with crystal-clear streams on which you can take a boat ride to enjoy the spectacular sights, it is no wonder that this highly-picturesque natural wonder has the reputation of being one of the most beautiful and fairytale-like places in China!
Enjoy Enshi City at your own leisure in the morning after which we will head to the Fairy Mountain Town (Xiannuzhen) in Wulong County.
Today, we will head to the Wulong 3 Natural Bridges Scenic Area that lies within the Wulong Karst National Geology Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spanning across the gorge are 3 magnificent natural stone bridges, namely the Tianlong (Sky Dragon), Qinglong (Green Dragon) and Heilong (Black Dragon) bridges. At a height of about 280m, the Qinglong bridge has the reputation of being the highest natural bridge in the world. In addition to these 3 bridges, the gorge is renowned for its scenic beauty, waterfalls, caves and plunging sinkholes. Movies like “Curse of the Golden Flower” starring Chow Yun Fatt and Gong Li and “Transformers – Age of Extinction” have scenes that were shot at this location! After the tour, we will head to Chongqing.
Enjoy a private tour of key attractions of Chongqing including (1) Ciqikou Ancient Town, (2) seeing trains running through a residential apartment building(!) at Liziba, (3) Longmenhao Old Street, (4) Jiefangbei pedestrian street and (5) Erling Park (for panoramic views of Chongqing city). Spend the evening at Chongqing’s highly iconic Hongya Cave. Optional: Crystal Skybridge at the Raffles City Chongqing “horizontal skyscraper” complex.
