Day 01 – ATHENS AIRPORT – NAFPLIOUpon arrival in Athens, transfer to Nafplio, a beautiful coastal city in the Peloponnese Peninsula that was the first capital of modern Greece. With a history dating back more than two millennia, Nafplio is virtually a living museum of modern Greece. Extant historical monuments of more recent occupiers like the Venetians and Turks rank among the top attractions in Nafplio. Enroute to Nafplio, there will be a stop at the Corinth Canal, an engineering wonder cut through the isthmus of Corinth linking the Ionian Sea with the Aegean and effectively severing the Peloponnese Peninsula from the mainland rendering it an island. Leaving Corinth, head to Nafplio. A stroll along the beachfront promenade and enjoying the sunset from the Palamidi Fortress are just some of the numerous activities or attractions that can be enjoyed at your own pace.
Day 02 – NAFPLIO : EPIDAVROS [B]
In the morning, head out for a guided tour to Epidavros, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that was in antiquity a renowned medical and healing centre. Today, its well-preserved ancient theatre that was constructed more than two millennia ago and renowned for its amazing acoustics and large seating capacity continues to host events and performances. Return to Nafplio.
Day 03 – NAFPLIO [B]
Enjoy Nafplio old town at your own leisure.
Day 04 – NAFPLIO – MYCENAE – DELPHI [B]
Depart Nafplio and head to Delphi. Enroute to Delphi, there will be a stop at Mycenae, an archaeological UNESCO World Heritage Site that was inhabited by the Mycenaean people more than three millennia ago.
Day 05 – DELPHI [B]
Enjoy a guided tour of the archaeological site in Delphi (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The Sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi, considered the “Centre of the World” in ancient Greece, is widely regarded as the most sacred site in all of Greece. Thereafter, explore Delphi at your own leisure.
Day 06 – DELPHI – KALAMBAKA [B]
Leaving Delphi, head to Kalambaka, an ancient town at the foot of the gigantic rocks of Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its amazing monasteries that were built on cliff-tops or into the cliffs that rise high into the sky. The monasteries were built by monks who were previously hermits living in individual caves on the cliffs and who got together to undertake the task. Although Meteora was once home to some 20 monasteries, only 6 have survived. Given their elevations, these exquisite monasteries also offer staggering views of the region!
Day 07 – KALAMBAKA [B]
Enjoy a guided tour of Meteora. After the tour, enjoy the town of Kalambaka at your own pace.
Day 08 – KALAMBAKA – ATHENS [B]
Bid farewell to Kalambaka and head to Athens. Athens, the capital of Greece and one of the world’s oldest cities, has a recorded and fascinating history spanning more than 3 millennia. Athens was once the capital of Europe – the birthplace of civilization and a powerful empire. Its heritage from the classical era is still evident in the city with numerous ancient monuments and works of art bearing testament to that rich heritage, the most famous of all being the Parthenon, sitting majestically on the Acropolis of Athens, an ancient citadel located on a flat-topped rocky outcrop. Also known as the “Sacred Rock”, the Acropolis, together with the Parthenon that sits within it, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are also Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman monuments in and around the city. A walk around the famous historic old neighbourhoods such as Plaka, Thission and Psyri will enable you to see the co-existence of different eras.
