Today we will head to the Yuanyang Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its breathtaking scenery and its history dating back more than 1,300 years. Built by the Hani ethnic minority people on steep hillsides over numerous centuries, the tiered rice terraces are irrigated by a complex system of canals and ditches reflecting the ingenuity of the Hani people in harmonizing human endeavours with the environment in a sustainable way. The stunning beauty of this area can be appreciated from two popular locations – Duoyishu and Bada – and an overnight stay offers the opportunity to enjoy highly-picturesque sunset and sunrise views, something not to be missed!
After enjoying the sunrise views of the Yuanyang Rice Terraces, we will head to the charming Jianshui Ancient Town, popularly regarded as the most beautiful village in Yunnan. With a history dating back more than 1,200 years, the town’s rich cultural heritage is reflected in the numerous well-preserved ancient buildings. Enjoy a sightseeing tourist train ride on China’s only remaining narrow-gauge train and view key attractions including the Double Dragon Bridge (considered by many as the most beautiful ancient bridge in China), Tuanshan Folk Houses, Jianshui Confucious Temple (one of the best-preserved in China) and the Zhu Family Garden. After the tour, enjoy at your own leisure the evening atmosphere of Jianshui.
Today we will head to Dali Ancient Town, a charming historic town surrounded by a moat and characterized by traditional Bai architecture (the Bai people being the main ethnic group), cobblestone streets and ancient city walls and watchtowers. The iconic Three Pagodas, a trio of 3 pagodas, are considered masterpieces of Bai architecture which can be viewed from the beautiful Erhai Lake just outside of the ancient town. Enjoy the evening atmosphere of Dali at your own leisure.
After a morning tour of Dali, we will head to Lijiang Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a history of more than 800 years. Located at the foot of the snow-capped and imposing Jade Dragon Snow Mountain which provides a picturesque backdrop to the beauty of this walled ancient town, walking along its cobblestone lanes and around the market square lined with traditional Naxi architecture is like taking a journey back in time! Other highlights include the numerous little wooden/stone bridges over picturesque canals and weeping willows swaying with the winds. Enjoy the vibrant and colourful atmosphere of this ancient town at your own leisure.
Today, we will head to the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain that is popular with hikers enjoying its natural beauty and diverse ecosystems and skiers enjoying its slopes in winter. The mountain is of cultural significance to the Naxi people who regard it as a sacred mountain.
