Day 03 – DATONG – MT WUTAI – TAIYUAN  [B]
Today, we will head to Wutaishan (Mount Wutai), a sacred “Buddhist Mountain” with 47 monasteries recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It has been a centre of Buddhist worship for more than a 1,000 years and among the more famous temples are the Xiantong Temple (the oldest and largest temple in the area), the Tayuan Temple (rich in heritage and home to a precious collection of Buddhist scriptures and artifacts), and the Foguang Temple (one of the oldest and also most famous wooden structures in China that is also renowned for its collection of Buddhist art and sculptures).  Apart from its religious significance, Wutaishan – “5 Terraces Mountain” – is a scenic place with beautiful landscapes.  Enjoy a tour of this culturally significant and naturally beautiful place.

Day 04 – TAIYUAN – LINFEN  [B]
Today we will head to Linfen on a high-speed train.  Upon arrival in Linfen, continue on to the spectacular Hukou Waterfall (along the Yellow River), the second largest waterfall in China.

Today, we will spend a full day exploring and enjoying the sights and attractions of Yunqiushan (Mount Yunqiu) renowned for its beautiful scenery, cultural heritage and religious significance.  The Wannian Ice Cave – perennially with ice formations – is the largest of such ice caves in China.  For a sense of human existence in antiquity, there is the Taerpo Ancient Village that has a history dating back more than 2,000 years.  Regarded as the “Living Fossil of Ancient Houses”, the village is built on a steep slope and the houses are carved into the rocks.  There are of course several other attractions in the area to be appreciated.

Day 06 – LINFEN – PINGYAO  [B]
Today, we will head to Pingyao Ancient City, a historic and well-preserved town that is popularly regarded as the most beautiful ancient town in China.  It is certainly worthy of its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Main attractions include: Rishengchang Draft Bank, considered China’s first modern bank, the Ancient City Wall, the Ming and Qing Dynasties Street, North China First Escort Agency and the Ancient Government Office (Yamen) of Pingyao County.  In the evening you may wish to watch the “Encore Pingyao” performance (own expense) or just enjoy the colourful and vibrant atmosphere of this ancient town.
