Day 01 – ARRIVE MUNICH – GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN

On arrival at Munich Airport, your driver will meet you and drive you to the train station where you will board a train to the picturesque Bavarian town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.  Surrounded by beautiful mountain views, its medieval old town is filled with beautifully-painted homes and buildings many of which depict historical events.  Explore this charming snowy village at your own leisure today and enjoy its Christmas Market.  In the evening, take a side trip to the neighbouring village of Mittenwald – an alpine town at the foot of the imposing Karwendel mountains and regarded by many as probably the most beautiful Bavarian alpine village!  There is also a Christmas Market in Mittenwald.

Day 02 – GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN: ZUGSPITZE   [B]

Take a day trip to Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak, with a 2,962m summit accessed by cogwheel train and cable car.  The Zugspitze mountain has three glaciers and is Germany’s highest ski resort with more than 20km of ski pistes covered with natural snow for about six months of the year.  At the top, enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of the German and Austrian alps (on a clear day, you can see more than 400 mountain peaks in four countries!).  Cross into Austria whilst at the peak as the peak is shared between Germany and Austria – and no passport needed as both countries are in the EU!

Day 03 – GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN – NUREMBERG   [B]

Head to Nuremberg today on a high-speed train.  In the afternoon, go on a guided walking tour of the city of Nuremberg and admire its medieval old town complete with beautiful historical sites including Nuremberg Castle, the Town Walls, medieval churches and historic buildings along the streets of the old town.  Not to be missed is the world-famous Nuremberg Christmas Market.  Enjoy it at your own leisure.

Day 04 – NUREMBERG: BAMBERG   [B]

Travel to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Bamberg and enjoy a guided walking tour to see the beautiful historic old town with preserved structures from the 11th to 19th centuries including the muralled Altes Rathaus (old town hall), picturesque churches, beautiful bridges and half-timbered houses.  And of course there is a Christmas Market in Bamberg too!  Whilst in Bamberg, you may wish to try their famous smoked beer before returning to Nuremberg.

Day 05 – NUREMBERG: ROTHENBURG OB DER TAUBER   [B]

Day trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, an exceptionally charming town on the famed Romantic Road, Germany’s most popular touring route.  Rothenburg is a medieval gem and probably the best preserved medieval town in the whole of Germany.  In winter, Rothenburg’s famous Christmas Market transforms the town into an idyllic winter wonderland.  The famous Käthe Wohlfahrt “Christmas Village” in the heart of Rothenburg which is open all year keeps the Christmas feeling going well before and after Christmas!

Day 06 – NUREMBERG – MUNICH   [B]

Depart Nuremberg and head to Munich, the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria and home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums.  Munich is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its beer halls, including the famed Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589.  In the Old Town (“Altstadt”) is Marienplatz, a central square with landmarks such as the neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus (town hall) with the Rathaus Glockenspiel (reputed to be the most extravagant clock in the world).  And in the days leading up to Christmas, the entire old town of Munich is one huge Christmas Market!

Day 07 – MUNICH: NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE  [B]

Join a guided day trip to visit Neuschwanstein Castle (remember Sleeping Beauty?), the fairy-tale castle of “Mad” King Ludwig II.  You can either join an optional 30-minute guided tour inside the castle or enjoy the splendid sweeping views around this alluring castle at your own pace.  From the bridge near Neuschwanstein Castle, enjoy the picture-perfect iconic views of this 19th century masterpiece and the gorge beneath it.

Day 08 – MUNICH  [B]

Enjoy Munich at your own leisure.  There is just so much to enjoy in Munich and in particular to soak in the Yuletide atmosphere and festivities that Munich has to offer.

Day 09 – DEPART MUNICH  [B]

Free time until your transfer to Munich Airport for your departure flight.

Optional:
(1) Possibility to extend one night in Munich to go Outlet shopping.
